The hike starts from the ancient village of Naranag which is 57 kms away from the capital Srinagar and falls under the moderate category. The trail runs alongside the Wangat river and goes through pine forests and thick tree cover. The summit is also known as Shadimarg Top and is situated at 3200 metres and offers a panoramic view where we get to see Mt. Harmukh, Kotwal Peak, Salnai Valley, Wangat Valley, Gangbal Valley and Marchoi valley.

Naranag is 57 kms away from Srinagar. The 3 km's hike starts from the ancient temple of Naranag and the trail goes right into the Wangat conservation reserve before you can get over the historical marvel of construction that the temple exhumes. For the remaining hike we will accompany Wangat fresh water stream (Wangat Nala) through the canopy of Walnut and willow trees, trying to absorb the sounds of running stream and chirping birds. Our hike will end once we see the confluence of Wangat and Marchoi stream coming in from Marchoi valley.

One of the best and most popular day hike from touristic town of Pahalgam is the Sheeshnag lake. Sheshnag Lake is surrounded by Kunyirhayan, a trio of towering mountain peaks. The trail's diversity adds to the trek's excitement even if Sheshnag Lake is its primary attraction. It passes through lovely meadows, steep ascents, well-marked paths, and man-made staircases. It is a 9 km trek, one way, which makes it a moderate - difficult trek seasoned and first time hikers.

The hike starts from Aru village, which is 30 minutes away from Pahalgam. It takes about 3-4 hours approximately to reach Lidderwat meadows, which is also known as the corridor to paradise. The trail ascends gradually for 30 minutes and is followed by a gentle walk through thick pine forests along the banks of the Lidder river. The lidderwat meadows also serve as a camping ground for varois treks such as Tarsar Marsar and Kolahoi Glacier.

Surmarg is a 6 kms hike starting from famous town of Pahalgam. The trail goes through green pine forests blooming with birds and fauna. The trail is a bit steep in the final one hour but the views once you get to the Surmarg meadows are majestic. One can witness the grand views with green meadows along with snow-capped Himalayan mountains in the backdrop. This is one of the best hikes from Pahalgam undoubtedly.

Difficulty - Easy - Moderate
In the Khan sahib tehsil around 5 kms from the famous off beat place known as Doodpathri lies a magical meadow which serves as campsite for various treks across Pir Panjal region. This hike has altitude gain of around 500 meters from starting point, but the grandeur that one witness from top is worth every step. The trail goes through pine forests and some willow and birch trees that looks absolutely amazing in autumn and spring, the view from the top is a majestic 360 degree with meadows, horses, shephard huts, snow capped ranges and peaks.

Kashmir is completely safe for hiking and trekking. But since it is a disputed territory permissions are required from Army and JK Tourism department for treks involving longer duration on mountains.
Kashmir has something got every season. Short Hikes and Treks can be done from May onwards and longer treks involving multiple days and nights are accessible from July onwards. In Winters also once can go on a short trek or a hike in Kashmir but there are not many options available.
